Warranty terms, in plain language.
Trend New Zealand installations can carry a written surface installation warranty — up to 25 years on swimming pools, and up to 15 years on other approved installations. This page explains how that cover is approved and issued, what it protects, and the conditions that keep it valid.

How cover is issued
The warranty is not automatic, and it is not a blanket product claim. It is issued per project, and only on jobs approved before work starts:
- Assessment first. Each job is assessed and approved before installation begins. A site-specific installation specification is issued for the project, naming the setting system, waterproofing, adhesive and grout to be used for each area and application.
- Installed to the specification. The approved system must be installed complete and as specified — surface preparation, waterproofing, adhesive and grout — with inspection points honoured during the work.
- Certificate on completion. A written warranty certificate is issued when the job is complete, naming the installer, the installation system used, the area covered, and the warranty term for that project.
"Up to 25 years" means the term is set per project by the approved system and its application, and the figure that applies to your job is the one stated on your certificate. Swimming pool installations under our approved epoxy systems qualify for the maximum 25-year term; other approved installations carry cover of up to 15 years. The installation warranty is a system warranty issued directly by the installation-system manufacturer for the approved system as installed on your project; the mosaic itself additionally carries the glass manufacturer's own product warranty. Trend New Zealand arranges the specification, registers the completed installation, and manages any claim on your behalf.
Conditions of cover
The warranty is tied to the method. It remains valid where all of the following are met:
- All components of the installation system come from the single specified manufacturer, with no substitutions — waterproofing, adhesive and grout are specified together as one system.
- Humid and submerged installations use the specified epoxy adhesive and grout, applied by an installer trained and approved for epoxy application. The warranty is conditional on this.
- Substrates are prepared to the specification — clean, sound, within flatness tolerance, free of curing compounds, sealers or contamination — before any membrane or tile is installed.
- Cure times are honoured in full. Pools are not filled until the specified cure is complete (typically 10 days at 21 °C after grouting), and completion is advised to us before filling so the system warranty can be registered.
- Movement and expansion joints are installed as detailed, and carried through the tile work.
What the warranty covers
The surface installation: the bond and integrity of the approved mosaic installation system across the certified area — the combination of preparation, waterproofing, adhesive, mosaic and grout named on the certificate. If a certified installation fails within its term under normal use, the claim is remedied under the certificate's provisions.
What it does not cover
- Supply-only purchases. Mosaic supplied without an approved installation carries the manufacturer's product warranty, not an installation warranty.
- Substituted components, unapproved installers, or departures from the issued specification.
- Structural movement, substrate or shell failure beyond the movement-joint design, or defects in work by others (including plumbing penetrations and primary seals, which are sealed by others).
- Damage by other trades, construction traffic on fresh work, or aggressive cleaning before cure is complete.
- Pool water chemistry maintained outside recommended ranges, and normal maintenance items such as resealing of movement joints.
- Repairs or modifications to the certified area carried out by anyone other than an approved installer.
- Sintered compact surfaces (Trascenda™), which are a separate product category to which this mosaic installation warranty programme does not apply.
Making a claim
Contact us with your certificate number and photos of the affected area. We will inspect, and where the claim falls within the certificate's cover, lodge and manage it with the system manufacturer on your behalf. Trend New Zealand is your first point of contact for the life of the warranty — you deal with us, not a head office overseas.
Your statutory rights
Nothing in these terms limits or replaces your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986. This warranty is provided in addition to those rights.
